Prof. Liang received his Ph.D degree from Boston University in 1993. He workedin the University of Maryland from 1993 to 2022, and currently is a Chair Professor and the Head of the Department of Geography, University of Hong Kong. His research interests are mainly in three areas:

	1) developing various satellite inversion methods and algorithms   (The details here) 
	2) producing the global high-level satellite products, such as  
		♦ the Global LAnd Surface Satellite (GLASS) product suite  (The details here) ; 
		♦ MODIS surface incident shortwave radiation and PAR products (MCD18A1 and MCD18A2); 
		♦ NOAA global land surface albedo product from VIIRS;  
		♦ The High-resolution GLASS (Hi-GLASS) products.  
	3) applying satellite data products to assess the environmental changes  (The details here) . 

Prof. Liang has published over 460 SCI indexed peer-reviewed papers in various journals, such as Science, Science Advances, Nature Climate Change, Nature Communications, Scientific Reports, Climatic Change, Journal of Climate, Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics, Global Change Biology, Agricultural and Forest Meteorology, Journal of Geophysical Research, Hydrology and Earth System Sciences, Journal of Hydrology, Environmental Research Letters, Remote Sensing of Environment, IEEE Transaction on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, and ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. Dr. Liang authored or edited eight books in English, five of which have been translated into Chinese, and one book in Chinese. He served as the Editor-in-Chief of the nine-volume Comprehensive Remote Sensing with Elsevier. He also published 42 book chapters. He was an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transaction on Geoscience and Remote Sensing (2001-2013) and a guest editor of several remote sensing journals. He is currently an Editor-in-Chief of Science of Remote Sensing.

His H-index is 100, i10-index=450, with over 39,000 citations in Google Scholar.

Prof. Liang has organized multiple international conferences on quantitative remote sensing.
